Civil War Re-enactment

Last Saturday the Bay County Genealogical Society (BCGS) was privileged to have the Gulf State Guards 2nd FL Co F CSA Infantry, a Civil War Re-enactment group as our program.

Their presentation was on the Battle of Marianna, which they will be re-enacting next weekend during Marianna Days.  The group gave us an overview of the battle. Then each presenter gave us a little background of their persona and told us what their persona did during the battle.  Their stories brought home the pain and agony of life during those troubled times here in the South.

It was an interesting program, as they were well versed on the history and background of the battle. In addition, they brought up the subject of revisionist history and how it impacts our perception of the past.  Marianna, Florida is about an hour and fifteen minutes from our house. Though I cannot attend this weekend I plan to put it on my calendar for next year.
